Youth Creativity For The Gulf Of Finland Year

14 of May, the Festival of school environmental installations devoted to The Gulf of Finland Year was held in “Vodocanal”. School projects on issue of Gulf of Finland problems and their solution were presented by the students of 7-10 grades. The representative of the environmental organization “Friends of the Baltic" took part in the jury and awarded the participants with special prizes for research approach to the practical solutions.

Youth Declaration to the Gulf of Finland – the Start

On the Earth Day 22nd of April in the Ecology and Biology Centre “Krestovskiy Island” youth seminar to elaborate proposals to the International Youth Declaration to the Gulf of Finland Year. Russian national team was selected to participate in the trilateral youth camp, which will be held in Helsinki on the Harakka Island during 25-27 June 2014.

The Gulf of Finland Year: kick-off

21 of January the trilateral Finland-Russia-Estonian Forum in Helsinki has ceremonially opened the Gulf of Finland Year 2014. This year actions should promote common solu-tions of Finland, Russia and Estonia improving environmental state of the Gulf and the Baltic Sea. The important part of the GOF Year program is set of educational activities. Friends of the Baltic in cooperation with NGOs and educational institutions of three coun-tries organize preparing the Youth Declaration to the Gulf of Finland Year

Sea festival 2013 on the shore of the Gulf of Finland

On the 24th of August in the town of Lomonosov, «Oranienbaum sea festival and environmental exhibition «Friends of the Baltic» was held the third time. The main objective was positioning Lomonosov (Oranienbaum) as a seaside city, increase awareness on protection of ecosystems of the Gulf of Finland, and encourage the development of yachting.

Pilot ecosanitation demonstration sites in Leningrad region

One of considerable contributors to the nutrient load to the Baltic Sea is runoff from toilets in rural areas in the Leningrad region, Russia. Over 700000 people reside constantly in rural settlements in this area, and about 2 million more come to rest here in summer. The traditional toilet in the area is a pit latrine with no treatment of excreta. Knowledge of ecotechnologies for possible solutions of this problem is almost absent among the population.
