Moving ecological conference of the Gulf of Finland shores inhabitants 1999

Campaign passed from June 30 till July 10, 1999 from Sosnovy Bor town on the coast of the Koporskaya bay of a GULF of FINLAND up to capital of Finland of Helsinki.

Friends of the Baltic Bicycle Campaign “For Sustainable Baltic Sea Coast”: Green Examples in Sweden, Common Challenges and Solutions for the Baltic Sea

The 14th Friends of the Baltic Moving Environmental Conference – bicycle campaign “For Sustainable Baltic Sea” took place between 12th and 25th of July 2012. Every year since 1999 environmental activists from the countries around the Baltic Sea ride bicycles in various countries along the Baltic Sea coast, enjoy nature, meet friends and colleagues, share experience and look together for the solutions for better marine and coastal environment. In 2012 the conference moved along the route St. Petersburg – Helsinki – Stockholm – Gotland – St. Petersburg.

July 3rd Friends of the Baltic team cycled along the Northern coast of the Gulf of Finland in Kurortny district of St.Petersburg. We held an informational campaign and gathered residents’ signatures under the petition for the protection of the Baltic Sea in Zelenogorsk town park and on the beach in Solnechnoe village. A group of students, members of Sestroretsk cycling club “Sportstyle” (high school #324) and their teachers joined us that day.

July 4th participants of the campaign cycled through St. Petersburg and had a meeting with the City Planning Commission deputy Irina Komolova and representatives of the Legislative Assembly Commission on ecology of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. A round table "Ecological Approaches to the wastewater treatment for small communities and individual houses" was held at Vodokanal of St Petersburg.

No Access to the Water!

July, 6th Russian “Friends of the Baltic” team of Race for the Baltic moved from St.Petersburg to the West along the Southern shore of the Gulf of Finland. During this day we found out that to find the access to the shoreline can be a challenging quest even if you are living just near the coast.

Friends of the Baltic joined the World Car Free Day

22 of September in St.Petersburg at the Ecocentrum demonstration complex Friends of the Baltic have organized the Open Day dedicated to the World Car Free Day. Friends of the Baltic staff arrived to the office by bicycles, scooters, public transport, and opened doors for all those, who are interested to learn more about the impact of transport on the climate and the environment in general, as well as on the available nature and climate friendly transport solutions.
