• Responsibility of business for nature conservation -- costs or benefits?

    Environmental responsibility and the right environmental policy of business contribute to the favorable environment in St. Petersburg, keeping the population healthy, increase of quality of goods and services, and benefit both companies and citizens. This is the common conclusion that the participants of the conference "Environmental responcibility of business as a basis for favorable environment and investment attraction of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region" came to. The conference was held in St. Petersburg, on September 20 and 21, 2007.

  • River festival 2007 in pavlovsk - youth tells about the local small rivers

    On May, 12 2007 young researchers and river protectors gathered in Pavlovsk at the river Popovka for the River Festival. This annual event is the part of the Friends of the Baltic long-term programme for public watch and protection of the rivers of the Gulf of Finland basin. For the third year the River Festival is held in Spring on various rivers. In 2005 it was held in Strel'na nearby the Strelka river, in 2006 - in Pesochnoye township by the river Chyornaya.

  • "Friends of the Baltic" international youth environmental camp - education for personal actions for sustainable development

    In the middle of July the international youth environmental camp, which worked during more than two weeks in Russia and Estonia, was finished. The camp was held by Friends of the Baltic NGO with the support of Nordic Council of Minister.

  • International youth environmental parliament in St.Petersburg

    "International Baltic Code of environmentally friendly behavior" was adopted by participants of International Youth Environmental Parliament (YEP), which was held on 22 April 2006 in Znamenka on the South coast of Gulf of Finland within Nordplus Neighbors Program of Nordic Council of Ministers. In Parliament took part more than 60 schoolchildren, students, teachers and activists of NGOs from Russia, Finland, Sweden and Estonia.

  • Presentation of the book "Renewable Energy for North-west Russia. Resources and perspectivities"

    This brochure is addressed to representatives of local authorities, non-governmental organizations (NGO), teachers, students, and ordinary citizens, interested in energy issues. It will be useful both for those, who would like to know more about environmentally friendly energy production, and for those, who is looking for practical possibilities and solutions for energy supply in a house, district or town on the basis of renewable energy sources.

  • Environmental education for sustainable development - education for real life

    Participants of the international seminar "Environmental Education for Sustainable Development. Interactive Methods and Educational Programs" discussed educational methods, which help people to make their everyday life more environmentally friendly. This seminar was held by Friends of the Baltic NGO January 21-22 in Znamenka (Peterhof) with the support of Nordic Council of Minister within the program "Nordplus Neighbour".

  • How to make rivers clean? North-West russian NGOs look for solutions

    Inter-regional seminar "Methods of ecological investigations and improvement of environmental situation in the river basins. Role of NGOs" was hold by Friends of the Baltic NGO with the support of Coalition Clean Baltic" January 13-14 , 2006 in Lomonosov-Petrodvorets.

    This seminar united representatives of local groups and NGOs of St.Petersburgh, Leningrad region, Novgorod and Vologda regions and Karelia, which work for river watch and nature protection in the river basins/ Also scientists and representatives of local authorities took part in the seminar.

  • The Conference on the Local Sustainable Initiatives and Public Participation in the Gulf of Finland Region” in St.Petersburg

    The Russian-Estonian conference “Local Sustainable Initiatives and Public Participation in the Gulf of Finland Region” took place in St.Petersburg on September 30 and October 1 and presented experiences of North-West Russia and Estonia on the local solutions in the field od waste management, nature protection, energy saving, etc. The conference was held by Friends of the Baltic NGO in cooperation with Estonian Society for Nature Conservation, St.Petersburg Centre for Environmental Initiatives and Russian Geographic Society with the support of the US Embassy in Moscow

  • North-west russian NGOs are uniting for protection of small rivers and local nature values

    How can we improve environmental situation in small river basins of North-West Russia and save nature and cultural values? What NGOs and public can do for that?

    These questions where discussed by participants of Inter-regional seminar "Development of public participation in the river basins management and prjtection of local habitatl values in the Baltic Sea region".

    The seminar was held in Lomonosov on 8-9 January by Friends of the Baltic NGO within the CCB "RIVER WATCH" program and regional program "OUR HABITAT VALUES".

  • The Center for Environmental Information and Energy Saving was launched in Lomonosov

    The Center for Environmental Information and Energy Saving was launched on 9 November in Lomonosov, on the South shore of the Gulf of Finland, 43 km from St.Petersburg.

    This Center was established by Friends of the Baltic NGO and the Center for Youth Environmental Tourism "South Shore".

    The Center is located in the office of the Center for Youth Environmental Tourism and works with support and assistance of St.Petersburg Public Center for Environmental Information, NGOs Friends of the Baltic, Center for Environmental Initiatives and TEIA.

  • Round table and public hearings on energy saving measures for households

    In November 2004 Public Hearings on energy saving measures for households were held in Leningrad and Murmansk regions. Hearings were organized by the Network of Public Centers for Environmental Information and Energy Efficiency, established in North-West Russia with the support of Canadian Civil Society Fund.

    These where a key events of the project, performing by the Friends of the Baltic NGO in cooperation with Center for Environmental Initiatives, Kola Environmental Inpofrmation Center "Gaia", TEIA, and "Union 4-H".

  • International seminar "Kyoto Protocol - Reality and Practical prospects"

  • The Day for alternative energy

    Was held on 26 April, 2004, in the Big Hall of the Russian Geographical Society. This Day was organised by the Commission on Nature Protection of the Russian Geographical Society and NGOs Friends of the Baltic and the CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES with the support of Canada Civil Society Fund and Swedish NGO Secretariat for Acid Rains. Schoolchildren, teachers, and representatives of NGOs, municipal authorities and business attended this event.

  • International Conference ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY: NATURE AND SOCIETY – 2004

    On April 2-3, 2004, the International Conference ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY: NATURE AND SOCIETY was held in St.Petersburg, Russia. The Conference was organised by the Centre for Environmental Initiatives, Interregional Youth NGO Children of the Baltic, the Russian State Hydrometeorological University, the Russian Geographical Society.

    On 16 January, the Round Table was held at the St.Petersburg Public Centre for Environmental Information on discussion of the project "Improvement of environmental situation in basins of rivers Strelka and Kikenka". The participants of the round table were representatives of NGOs Children of the Baltic, Centre for Environmental Initiatives, Baltic Federation of Fishermen, Youth ecoclub Domovenok and residents of the Lomonosov district of the Leningrad region.

  • Youth bike action "For clean nature and nuclear-free future" 2000

    This was the slogan of the Youth Bike Action organised by Children of the Baltic with support of Global Greengrants fund (USA) and the Moving Environmental Conference "Baltic-2000" organised by Green World with support of the Swedish NGO Secretariat on Acid Rain with The participants of these actions - environmental activists, teachers of environment and students from St.Petersburg, Sosnovy Bor and Lomonosov - started from Sosnovy Bor on 9 July and covered in 10 days the distance over 540 kilometres to the Estonian capital Tallinn.

  • Moving ecological conference of the Gulf of Finland shores inhabitants 1999

    Campaign passed from June 30 till July 10, 1999 from Sosnovy Bor town on the coast of the Koporskaya bay of a GULF of FINLAND up to capital of Finland of Helsinki.
