December 11 in St.Petersburg more than 25 school teams expressed their knowledge on climate change and greenhouse gas sources, understanding necessary actions to save energy, presented models of renewable energy sources and energy efficient houses, made simple investigations of heat losses in school.
The organizers of the event were St.Petersburg Committee for Nature Use and Environmental Protection in cooperation with Mineral Company, and Friends of the Baltic NGO/SPARE Russia’ org-committee.
Participants have visited 5 interactive stations, where implemented various tasks on climate and energy. SPARE experts led the Energy Saving station, where students measured heating loses through the windows, showed their knowledge on simple home energy saving rules: insulation, energy saving cooking, energy efficient choice of home equipment and lamps, economic regimes of electronic devises.
SPARE experts at this event provided consultations for teachers on the participation in the Energy and Environment competition 2014-2015. Experts from St.Petersburg State University, Russia Hydro-meteorological University and Mineral Company, and Russian Social Ecological Union/SPARE made their presentations. Olga Senova, Russian SPARE coordinator/leader of RSEU climate secretariat spoke about UN climate negotiations in Lima COP-20 and NGP observers’ work there. She has presented various forms of possible school involvement to SPARE.
