Microplastics and marine litter are global challenges that can be addressed by changing the production, consumption and waste management approaches. «Friends of the Baltic» were among the first in Russia who started talk about microplastic pollution and possible solutions.
We stand for:
- ban on the production of cosmetics with microplastics and single-use plastics, that have alternatives,
- improved filtration at wastewater treatment plants and state microplastics monitoring,
- sustainable waste management and the implementation of «Zero waste» concept.
«Friends of the Baltic» supports public research of marine litter and microplastics. We address to the public and stakeholders methods to reduce waste generation and losses of microplastics into the environment, create methodological resources on the issues, conducts trainings and intersectoral meetings to solve the problem.
