«Sennoy Okrug» municipality held a cycle of environmental events for residents, in July 2018, located in the center of St. Petersburg. The Green tour was the key event of this series of events. Experts of Friends of the Baltic NGO, a long-time partner of the municipality, organized a lecture in educational exhibition Ecocentrum, about the ecological situation in the city and the choice of green solutions to reduce the negative impact of people to nature. They also told about the environmental aspects of the city environment: city transport, landscape ponds in city, as well as rivers and canals.
Climate and Energy
On May 12, the "Sea-Climate-Energy" and "Microplastic" information stations launched "Friends of the Baltic" as part of the fifth international environmental campaign "Clean Coast". The action took place on the Tarhovka beach in the Kurortny district of the city on the northern shore of the Gulf of Finland. It was devoted to improving the ecological state of the coast of the Gulf of Finland, the formation of ecological awareness of the younger generation and the active population of the city, as well as the development of environmental volunteer movement in the field of environmental protection.
The Luga River Festival gathered together more than 100 people. It was held on May 19 in the village Tolmachevo in Luga district of Leningrad region. Students and teachers, environmentalists, scientists in different disciplines, organizations, authorities, media and NGOs were the guests of the Festival.
On September 19th a round table was held with the participation of experts of Friends of the Baltic in the Ecocentrum exhibition center. It was dedicated to educational projects, programs and activities in the 2017-2018 school year. The meeting was attended by teachers from St. Petersburg and Leningrad region who are interested in environmental education, energy conservation, implementing green solutions for the conservation of nature, climate and the Baltic sea. Among them there were not only experienced educators and our regular partners, but also those who want to know more about environmental issues.
On November 28, Friends of the Baltic experts, Profine RUS (JSC) and a school ecoadviser conducted a thermal imaging observation at a public school. In 2010-2012, an energy audit was performed (or should have been performed) in all Russian schools by service companies, but often the results were not explained to the school administration, neither were they delivered to the technical staff and the overall school community, and thus failed to create the basis for the improvement of energy efficiency of the school building.
On November 24, Friends of the Baltic organized and conducted an open Energy Saving Day for students of building and construction related courses of the College of Tourism and Hotel service. Future builders and buildings managers at tourist destinations took part in two sections: Climate and Energy, and Energy Efficiency.
The contest of school projects "Energy and Environment" and an exhibition of five Energy Efficient Building banners were awarded by diplomas by government of the Saint-Petersburg on October 5, on seminar “Energy saving in the budgetary sphere and housing and communal services. The main tasks and solutions” on VI International congress “Energy saving and energy efficiency – dynamic of development”.
The kick-off seminar of Cities for Life campaign was held on September 30 in St.Petersburg, Russia. It was organized by Friends of the Baltic NGO and 350.org and helped bring together ecoactivists, experts and public officials in order to discuss possible ways of collaboration to promote the city’s climate strategy and climate-friendly solutions for urban areas. Many solutions already exist and they have to do with energy efficiency, ecofriendly ways of transportation, changes in consumption patterns and sustainable use of resources, among others.
