The Kit of information and methodic materials, developed within the project “More Baltic Less Plastic” includes booklets on microplastics, methodic on public researches of marine litter on the sea coast and microplastics in water bodies, public map with the results of microplastics investigations in the Gulf of Finland basin, publications on the web site and social networks
Friends of the Baltic took part in an environmental city forum "Green light for St. Petersburg!", which was held on March 12 at Center of Ecology and Biology "Krestovsky ostrov", one of the largest Russian additional education institutions in the ecological and biological field. This forum is a platform for active school students interested in natural sciences, where they get acquainted with each other and with experts of public environmental organizations, movements and initiatives. This year experts from Friends of the Baltic, volunteers from Razdelny Sbor and founder of the "Clean Games" project shared the experience with teenagers from the environmental groups of the Russian school movement.
Friends of the Baltic non-government organization took part in a meeting with representatives of civil initiatives (23.12.18 Trava party) from St.Petersburg and Leningrad region. During the event we shared some methods and expertise of civil science. Friends of the Baltic are using tested methods of public monitoring while working to determine the quality of water in the water bodies of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. The study of water is conducted according to several indicators - determination of content of nitrates in the water and concentration of micro-plastic.
On the Federal channel Russia-1 has released a video about the microplastics which was initiated and inspired by experts of Ecocentrum and Friends of the Baltic. We attracted our parter experts to participate in this TV story. A lot of people in Russia have learned about the problem of microplastics and what can be done at the individual level. Let`s reduce microplastics pollution!
Ecocentrum and Friends of the Baltic experts conducted a series of research activities with students of environmental areas of St. Petersburg since May to September. There were: -trainings on the selection and analysis of samples on the microplastics, -water sampling in different water bodies of St. Petersburg:Gulf of Finland, Smolenka river, Duderhof canal, Lakhtinsky bay; -analysis of samples in the laboratory of SPBU resource center and Ecocentrum; -lectures and workshops on the topic of micro-plastic.
«Sennoy Okrug» municipality held a cycle of environmental events for residents, in July 2018, located in the center of St. Petersburg. The Green tour was the key event of this series of events. Experts of Friends of the Baltic NGO, a long-time partner of the municipality, organized a lecture in educational exhibition Ecocentrum, about the ecological situation in the city and the choice of green solutions to reduce the negative impact of people to nature. They also told about the environmental aspects of the city environment: city transport, landscape ponds in city, as well as rivers and canals.
Members of the public environmental organization "Friends of the Baltic" at the environmental forum "Ant wave-2018" on the North shore of the Gulf of Finland told local residents about environmental consequences of the marine litter, especially plastic. Publications on microplastic and environmentally friendly lifestyle was given to the library of Zelenogorsk town and local inhabitants. The participants of the workshop devoted to the reduction of plastic waste on the individual level and the whole family learned how to determine the plastic marking, recognize about what plastic is suitable for food, how separate waste collection works, and why microplastic is a big problem.
An environmental action "Barefoot on the beach" was held on June 13, on the beach of the Gulf of Finland in the village of Bolshaya Izhora. The staff of "The Regional center of culture and youth initiatives", the employees of youth labor brigades, volunteers of the VOLUNTEER-LR movement were both cleaned coastal areas, and learned to carry out monitoring of marine litter by international methodology http://baltfriends.ru/eng_rw_manual under the guidance of the Ecocentrum and Friends of the Baltic experts.
